Celebration of Latino Culture / Celebración de la Cultura Latina

10/20 – 11/02 | Oklahoma Contemporary, Fairgrounds

Oklahoma Latino Cultural Center is partnering with the Oklahoma Contemporary for a Celebration of Latino Culture. The celebration takes inspiration from the Día de los Muertos, a holiday with indigenous roots that takes place in several Latin American countries, and reaches out to encompass many Latin cultural traditions.

From Oct. 20 to Nov. 2, the gallery will house three exhibitions: Day of the Dead / Día de Los Muertos, an exhibition curated from an open call to Latinx artists in the region; Chris Ortiz: Portraits of Latinx Identity / Retratos de la identidad latina, a photography exhibition that shows the wide range of people who identify as Latinx, and an exhibition of prints by Self-Help Graphics, an LA-based community art center.

On Oct. 20, Oklahoma Contemporary, in partnership with the Oklahoma Latino Cultural Center, will present a day of activities, performances and experiences that celebrate Latinx arts and culture. This family-friendly program includes three exhibitions on view, drop-in studio activities, storytime, student and professional mariachi performances, Yúmare Folkloric Dancers and a special musical set by local singer/songwriter Lincka. DJ Maverick will create the soundtrack for the day with music from across Latin America. Complimentary food and drink will be available from 12-2 p.m., while it lasts.
